Access to deeper learning in Science

In science lessons at Hove Park School students are regularly challenged to question their ideas and come to conclusions based on scientific evidence. 

We offer students the opportunity to choose triple science as a GCSE option subject. This results in them gaining three GCSEs, one in each branch of science, as opposed to the standard two GCSEs in combined science. Many of our HPA students select this option as it provides a good foundation for sciences at A-level. 


In year 8 we support students in applying for the BrightMed programme (this runs from year 9-13) at the University of Brighton which gives students the chance to go into University and have some real experience of what studying medicine might be like in the future. 


We are constantly looking for other opportunities to inspire our students and last year had the Small Piece charity in school running a day for our HPA students. This resulted in us winning a local competition and five students taking up free places on residential courses in Engineering at Universities.

Extended project work 

Each subject at HPS aims to provide our HPA community with an insight into acquiring the key skills needed to prepare for EPQ type projects at A Level. These projects are designed to develop core skills required in the workplace closely linked to subjects that interest our HPA students. About EPQ after GCSE?

An EPQ provides further academic stretch and challenge alongside A Level studies and also helps to evidence a genuine interest in a specific area (which is useful for UCAS university applications). An EPQ also carries UCAS points and is valued at 50% of a full A Level in the UCAS tariff.

The Children and Young People’s Mental Health Conference 2021

Ms Pinney will be speaking at The Children and Young People’s Mental Health Conference 2021 today at 3.30pm - https://cypmhconference.co.uk/  The talk will be about implementing a whole school approach to mental health, specifically the impact on academic performance by investing in pupil mental health and wellbeing. Hove Park is heavily invested in the emotional wellbeing and mental health of all our young people. The work we do to identify mental health needs and the packages of support on offer at Hove Park has resulted in local and national recognition. Children's Parade At Large

The spectacular Children’s Parade traditionally marks the opening day of the Brighton Festival. On Saturday 1 May, there will be an online fanfare. The creative minds behind this iconic event, Same Sky , have encourage schools across Brighton and Hove to get involved across virtual platforms in an event that had been dubbed the Children's Parade At Large ( 1 - 31 May 2021). Art groups from year 7 have been creating flags for the event inspired by this year’s theme ‘CARING FOR THE ENVIRONMENT’. They have created some fantastic flags Thanks to 7Ead1 and 7cad1 for your incredible creative output!

Chinese language video festival

The first ever Chinese language video festival was launched today to celebrate this year's United Nations Chinese Language Day. The event, organized by UNOG (the United Nations Office at Geneva), the permanent mission of China to the United Nations office at Geneva and other international organizations in Switzerland, and CMG (China Media Group), is open to all foreigners worldwide interested in the Chinese language. Deneb, Year 10, Fintan, Year 9 and Luna, Year 8 have made their own version of Chinese poetry videos by recalling their own stories or narrating any memories related to springtime to celebrate the virtual event
