Art
In Art we stretch our HPA students by regularly offering extended learning tasks in class and for homework. We demonstrate how to modify and develop work as it progresses so all students are sufficiently challenged. The majority of our outcomes rely on students responding to feedback. The results we have in terms of outcomes have been graded Outstanding.
At key stage 3 we offer Early Bird GCSE classes to year 8. Students are exposed to a wide range of materials and practices and also go on a trip to the Saatchi Gallery. At key stage 4 we offer Aiming for Excellence intervention to all students who are meeting their target grades. We have a robust marking system that will continuously push students to meet exceed their target grades.
Each subject at HPS aims to provide our HPA community with an insight into acquiring the key skills needed to prepare for EPQ type projects at A Level. These projects are designed to develop core skills required in the workplace closely linked to subjects that interest our HPA students. Follow the link here to access the subject-specific projects we are offering to students from September 2020.
An EPQ provides further academic stretch and challenge alongside A Level studies and also helps to evidence a genuine interest in a specific area (which is useful for UCAS university applications). An EPQ also carries UCAS points and is valued at 50% of a full A Level in the UCAS tariff.
