Students studying for the Higher Tier at GCSE face a host of challenges across the languages. There is more emphasis placed on the ability to access and understand harder authentic texts and listening materials as well as writing and speaking in the target language with a greater spontaneity and complexity of grammar and syntax. To this end all forms of reading and listening materials are invaluable.

Reading – online versions of newspapers, magazines and blogs

Listening – Target language TV and radio apps and You Tube clips (Tipp = search key words in the target language)

Writing – online tutorials on tense formation and vocab building

Speaking – use you iPad to record what you have written and try to memorise longer texts

On YouTube – Easy German/French/Spanish

These projects are designed to develop core skills required in the workplace closely linked to subjects that interest our HPA students. An EPQ provides further academic stretch and challenge alongside A Level studies and also helps to evidence a genuine interest in a specific area (which is useful for UCAS university applications). An EPQ also carries UCAS points and is valued at 50% of a full A Level in the UCAS tariff.
