At Hove Park the global world in which our students are growing up in is at the heart of language learning and we promote an understanding of the culture, people and history of the target language country and where possible travel to and interaction with students of a similar age.
In Spanish we explore the culture and history of Spain and Latin American countries across years 7-11. Events and topics studied include the study of a wide range of festivals such as : La Tomatina, the running of the bulls in Pamplona and The Mexican Day of the Dead. We focus on countries that are Spanish speaking and their huge biodiversity and types of food as well as the difference in mealtimes to the UK. We also look at the current issues in Latin America such as the unrest in Venezuela, the impact of Latin American players in the premier league as well as the regional differences in Spain and propaganda against bullfighting. The importance of Spanish as a language in the United States is looked at as well as Spanish as the third most widely spoken language in the world.
